To conduct a fieldwork research is a daunting task for the students. During my master’s degree, I will have to write an academic paper and to finalize that academic paper; I will have to conduct an effective research. This process of conducting research was really enjoyable to me. Anyhow, I have also done a lot of mistakes during this process. Along with these mistakes, I have also learned a lot of lessons from this research process. My main concern was to validate the data and major findings with the help of conducting qualitative research.
In order to gather the data with the help of qualitative research methodology, we will have to conduct interviews. For this reason, I have divided the interview conducting process into two different groups. In the first group, I have conducted interviews with government officials and in the second group; I have conducted interviews with other people. These interviews consisted of open-ended as well as closed-ended questions. In order to get the best respondents from the people, I have devised interview questions just according to the desires of the people.
Some interviews were conducted with political elites. These political elites provide evasive answers to these interview questions. Its main reason was that some questions were based on the sensitive nature of the politics. While conducting interviews with these political elites, I was not able to use any kind of recording device. That’s why I have recorded only elusive responses to these interview questions. These elusive responses from the politicians have left some frustrations and disillusions in my project.
By conducting these interviews, I have discovered some slum dwellers. With the help of these slum dwellers, I was able to get an idea about the regeneration in the urban area. This thing was beneficial to me to complete my project. With the help of this kind of field research, I was able to get the best quality data. On the other hand, if I adopt quantitative research methodology in order to gather the data for my project, then I was never able to get such a best quality and authentic findings and data for my project.
No doubt, the process of conducting field research was a stressful and precarious task to me. Anyhow, with the help of setting objectives, it was easy for me to gather such a best quality data for my project. Anyhow, due to lack of experience and professional skills, I have wasted a huge amount of time during the data collection process. I had used my special skills and abilities in order to get the best responses from the respondents.
